What is Father’s Day really about? What is it about for you?
My initial answer was about celebrating every father out there. Seems logical enough right?
Then I did some quiet contemplation and I came to a distinction that really empowered me and also expanded my view on what this day means and how I can express more gratitude and appreciation. I want to share that insight with you all.
What if Father’s Day was about celebrating the spirit of fatherhood?
I asked this question of myself and it opened up a new way of looking at this day. There are many men who have shared the spirit of fatherhood with me at varying points in my life. In addition to my biological father, I now acknowledge and show my gratitude to all these men as well as my own father for the support, guidance and love they have shown me.
Thank you to the following men who have demonstrated the spirit of fatherhood in my life:
Alan Wardle, Farhan Lalji, Shaun Johnston, Armand Gregoire, David Frank Gomes, Jason Schlesinger, Stefan Scaini, Bruce McDonald, Dean Bennett, Bill Thumm, Ron Donatelli, Dan Donatelli, Marty Donatelli and all the teachers and coaches throughout my life.
Thank you all. And to the many more I have missed or forgotten, thank you as well.
Today I acknowledge the love and support you have given me to become the man I am today. Thank you to all the men out there who are stepping up and expressing the spirit of fatherhood to their own children and those around them.
Today is for you.
Happy Father’s Day
